2021 Infiniti QX80 Upgraded To Fight Cadillac Escalade

As the Infiniti brand eagerly waits for new products to arrive, like the upcoming QX55, the Japanese automaker continues to make do by updating its current product portfolio. The 2021 Infiniti QX80 full-size SUV is the latest to receive an update for the new model year. Infiniti's largest model experienced its best sales month ever at the end of 2019. Still, with new entrants like the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Jeep Grand Wagoneer joining this segment, the QX80 needs some help to remain competitive.

This 2021 update is not a full facelift, but the QX80 receives a few notable upgrades, including new trim levels called Sensory, Premium Select, and Luzxe. Pricing for the 2021 QX80 starts at $69,050 with 2WD - over $8,000 less than the new Escalade - while the 4WD model costs $72,150.

All QX80 models now use Infiniti's dual-screen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A Smart Rearview Mirror (SRVM) system now comes standard as well, allowing drivers to switch from a regular mirror to an LCD monitor. That monitor is now larger with a 9.6-inch diameter, and also includes Flicker Mitigation Technology to improve visibility and clearness.

Upgrading to the Luxe grade adds more driver-assist technologies, including Blind Spot Intervention (BSI), lane departure prevention, distance control assist, rear seatbelt reminder, and adaptive cruise control. The Premium Select grade includes details first used on the 2020 QX80 'Edition 30,' such as dark chrome accents and 22-inch wheels.

The Sensory grade sits at the top of the lineup with quilted semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, Charcoal Burl trim, and a graphite tricot headliner. It also receives 22-inch forged alloy wheels, chrome mirror caps, and a Hydraulic Body Motion Control System for a smoother ride. All QX80 models still use a 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 400 horsepower going out through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The 2021 Infiniti QX80 arrives in US showrooms starting in fall 2020.
