2022 BMW 5 Series Hybrid

Few cars convey professional success and social status better than a suave, sleek, and luxurious sedan. The 2022 BMW 5 Series Hybrid doesn't just announce one's self-importance, however, but also their fervent compassion for the environment. With a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine under the hood that's been integrated with an electric motor and 12 kWh battery, the 5 Series Hybrid is as entertaining and nimble as any BMW, but also a whole lot more efficient. The engine churns out a combined 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which propels the midsize sedan from 0 to 60 mph in a reasonably quick 5.7 seconds. With Mercedes-Benz planning on debuting its very own PHEV version of the ever-popular E-Class sedan, and with the Volvo S90 Hybrid and Lexus ES Hybrid having already been around for a while, has BMW prepared its sporty, eco-warrior well enough for the US masses?

The BMW 5 Series PHEV may not be the go-to Bimmer for brand enthusiasts, but it's still a genuinely entertaining and capable car that also delivers decent fuel economy and offers a spacious cabin. With its 288-hp 2.0L plug-in hybrid engine, the BMW 5 Series Hybrid Sedan has plenty of get-up-and-go but also manages to remain reasonably efficient, returning combined mpg figures of 70 mpg when driven responsibly. With its standard-fit double-wishbone front suspension and five-link rear suspension, one can expect the 5 Series to handle like a charm, too, all the while remaining exquisitely composed and comfortable whether in the city or on the highway. Its interior is modern, spacious, and very well outfitted with creature comforts and conveniences, but we'd still go ahead and opt in the available Executive package for the head-up display, heated front seats, and other luxury items.

BMW presents the 2022 5 Series 530e Hybrid at a price of $55,550 and the 530e xDrive Hybrid at a price of $57,850. That's a reduction of around $1,500 in the BMW 5 Series Plug-In Hybrid's MSRP from 2021. BMW also offers a good selection of add-ons and packages to choose from, including a $2,000 M Sport appearance package, a $2,200 Premium package adding a bunch of luxury features, and a $3,100 Executive package, which just extends on the list of luxury features in the Premium package.
