There is a long line of storied Audi sports cars, but what put Audi on the map was the 1980 Audi Quattro and the images of rallying that this car still evokes. The automaker popularized for mainstream passenger cars the AWD technology that used to be meant for tractors and trucks. Quattro is still a mainstay of the brand and all of Audi’s top-performance RS (RennSport) models have it as standard, starting with the RS2 Avant. In 2021, Audi USA offers a range of Audi Sport products, including sedans, coupes, SUVs, and sports cars.
About Audi Sport Car Models
Here is a list of the Audi Sport models currently available for sale in the US:
- RS3 Sedan. With an MSRP starting in the mid-$50,000 range, this is the most affordable RS and a true sports Audi, despite the lower price. It uses a turbocharged inline-five with 394 horsepower.
- RS5 Coupe and Sportback. Audi’s second-generation A5 has again spawned a stylish coupe and the RS5 is the top dog. Its 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 444 hp can dispatch the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. This fast, sporty Audi is definitely not to be underestimated
- RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. For the Audi sports car, 2020 was a good year. The heavy-hitting station wagon finally arrived on US soil last year and it’s one of a generation of practical new Audi sports cars for local buyers. The RS7 Sportback is the same car with a coupe-style five-door body.
- RS Q8. Starting at well over $100k, the RS Q8 has the similarly priced and engined RS7 Sportback licked for practicality because it’s an SUV.
- TT RS. With the same 394-hp five-cylinder engine as the RS3, the TT RS is essentially a more stylish 2-door coupe variant of an already popular nameplate.
- R8 Coupe and Spyder. The R8 Coupe harks back to the days of the naturally aspirated supercar. The R8 Spyder is the most expensive R8, but what price do you put on a 5.2-liter V10 that revs to nearly 9,000 rpm?
Advice For Choosing Your Fast Audi
Audi offers sports-car models for everybody. What do you need? If you want a blistering SUV, the RS Q8 is one of the best. If you prefer a compact sedan that packs a punch, the RS3 is just the thing. For practicality and supercar performance, the RS6 is unbeatable. And in-between, there is a fine selection of sports cars, stylish coupes, and coupe-style four-doors.

FAQs
Should I buy an Audi RS3?
It’s old but still desirable. However, since a new model is due before long, you may want to hold off for a little while. If you’re impatient, you can try to negotiate for a good deal on the old one.
Can I get an AWD R8?
Currently, Audi offers the R8 only in RWD configuration. However, the TT RS is an interesting proposition if you want the patented quattro system. It is nearly as fast as an R8 but cheap by comparison.
What does Sportback mean?
It is Audi’s name for coupe-like 4-door cars based on sedans. They are stylish and have frameless doors, but are less practical than sedans, with less rear headroom.
