When it comes to new BMW coupe cars, there are several models on the list. Some are new for 2021, while others carry over from 2020 and before. Either way, the lineup comprises the traditional 2-door coupe and the 4-door gran coupe models. Whether you buy new or used, here is what you can expect from each.

• 2 Series - The smallest of the range, it is also in its last year of production before we are introduced to a new generation. That said, it remains a remarkable and gorgeous machine. You get access to more than enough power from either of the engine options, and handling leaves nothing to be desired. As an older model, it can cost quite a bit to add on some of the modern features you’d expect from a new luxury vehicle, but its small proportions make it one of the most fun to drive.
• 4 Series - Slightly larger than a standard 3 Series, it is still lacking in seating space due to its body configuration. On top of that, the available manual transmission is now only available on the top-tier M4. That said, the standard automatic is one of the best on the market and it complements the refined handling and capable engine well. If you’re looking for a good balance of comfort and sportiness, this is the model range to look at.
• 8 Series - The largest coupe is still a bit cramped in the back for tall adults, but it serves well as a family car for those with small children. It is also extremely fun to drive thanks to its powerful turbocharged in-line six engine, while the twin-turbo V8 is sheer, sublime overkill. Those inside are treated to the finest materials and modern features. Like the 4 Series, a Gran Coupe version is available with four doors and loads more space. This car is the grand tourer in the lineup.
• i8 - The only electric hybrid in the stable, the i8 naturally boasts the best gas mileage at 69 MPGe, but it does so at the cost of raw power. It also has rather poor range compared to more modern PHEVs. Nevertheless, it looks incredible and has loads of great tech. Some of the interior materials could be better, though. Perhaps BMW’s future EV plans will reinvigorate the now-aging nameplate; the i8 is being discontinued after 2020.
• M2 - The small M is one of the most exciting cars on the road today. It offers breakneck acceleration and a manual gearbox to really get that hands-on experience. The interior is a bit plain, unless you opt for the CS variant, which is significantly more expensive. It is also restricted to rear-wheel-drive. In either case, you don’t get a lot of extra space behind the cockpit, but as usual, the trunk is surprisingly competitive with some larger rivals..
• M4 - The mid-tier M coupe is well-equipped with a twin-turbo inline-six and a choice between a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto. This car is the benchmark in the segment and remains one of the most rewarding cars to drive on the edge, although some old-school purists will bemoan the sheer tech and extra luxury that has only been added to with each year. Still, if you want a sports car you can drive everyday, look no further.
• M8 - The only M coupe model to come equipped with AWD as standard, the M8 is an impressive sports car. It’ll cost you an arm and a leg, but in exchange, you get a spacious coupe dressed up in the finest materials and impeccable style. The ride is smooth and compliant, despite the ludicrous performance offered by the twin-turbo V8. The only area it falls a bit short in is a list of standard features that is shorter than what most competitors present. The regular 8 Series in M850i form is an overall better car for the job of grand touring.
