BMW M Boss Reveals M4 With See-Through Hood

Sports Cars / 10 Comments

When was the last time you saw a see-through hood on a Bimmer?

BMW isn't normally a company known for its crazy custom one-offs. Take Porsche, for example. There's a crazy one-off super-limited run 911 just about every other damn week. That's fine. No hate, that's Porsche's thing, and that's just fine. But when BMW does it, that makes a special one-off just that little bit more special. And who better to do that for than ex-M frontman Markus Flasch?

For three years, Flasch was the CEO of BMW M. He called all the shots, and was responsible for some of the last F80-generation BMW models, as well as overseeing the introduction of the newest BMW M4 and M3. Now, Flasch heads up Rolls-Royce. A huge change of pace, we know. Still, Flasch clearly has a thing for M cars.

In a post on his Instagram, Flasch showed off what appears to be a custom-built BMW M4. From what we can tell, the car is a bit of a mixed bag. It looks to be an M4 Comp, at least going off the wheels, and is clad in a matte olive color. But the news here isn't the car itself, it's the hood.

The hood of Flasch's M4 looks to be right off the brand new M4 CSL, with a special change. It's see-through. When was the last time you saw a sports car with something like that? Maybe the Corvette ZR1? More than that, the see-through M badge appears to be backlit as well. We need Flasch to get some real photos of that taken at night ASAP. Underneath, you can clearly see the valve cover of BMW's S58 inline-six, with "M Power" written across the top.

That M Power text has been there for the majority of M cars dating back to the McLaren F1. Though that one said "BMW M Power" instead. Regardless, it's probably the coolest feature to come out of any BMW in recent memory. We're including the entirety of the BMW M4 CSL in that statement.

Flasch himself didn't offer many details on the hood. For now, we have to assume it was made just for him. That also means it's unlikely BMW will be doing anything of the sort for mass production. Besides, with the new BMW 3 Series already on its way, the M3 and M4 are sure to get an update (and hopefully a more lovable face) very soon.
