I own a 2010 BMW X5 30i. This is my second BMW, but my first SUV. I never thought I'd get an SUV, but this one just felt right, although the car is not perfect. Here's what I love about it: - Powerful engine - The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six has plenty of power and torque to get you where you need to go in a hurry. It also sounds great! - Excellent handling - It handles like an M3, which is pretty impressive considering it weighs more than 4,000 pounds (not including passengers). - Good fuel economy - When driving normally, I can get 20 mpg or better on the highway during summer months and 16 mpg or better during winter months with a lot of city driving mixed in there as well. What could be improved? - Interior quality isn't as nice as some other German cars, but it's still very nice overall (better than BMW 3-series). However, my X5 has had some rattles develop over time when going over bumps at higher speeds.
I have had the car for about two year now and I am impressed with it. I bought this car for the size, space, and comfort. It is a great vehicle for family vacations or a long day on the road. I love the seats in the back, they are very comfortable and can fit three adults comfortably in them if needed to be. There is plenty of room in the backseat area for luggage, groceries, or whatever you need to put back there as well as plenty of leg room for passengers sitting in all three seats The performance is great; it is a fast car and gets up to speed quickly. The gas mileage isn't bad either, considering how much power this has under the hood. The only complaint I have with this car is that it's not as quiet as I would like it to be while driving at highway speeds.
I bought an X5 6 months ago with 7,000 miles on it, and now it has just over 16,000 miles on it. I don't know if my experience is typical but I love this car. It's big and powerful yet handles like a smaller car. I'm 6'3" tall, so size is important to me when buying any vehicle and the X5 fits me perfectly. The seats are comfortable and supportive, even on long drives. The BMW iDrive system is easy to use once you get used to it. If you're not familiar with iDrive then it may take some time to get used to but once you do it works great! The navigation system works well but does not have traffic data built in so you need an optional subscription for that. The trunk is cavernous and the rear seats fold down easily, making hauling large items possible without having to take anything out of the trunk first (just open both rear doors). The powertrain has plenty of get-up-and-go when needed and decent fuel economy.
I love my X5! I bought it used at 75,000 miles. The only things that have gone wrong with it are regular maintenance items such as brakes and tires. I drive about 50K a year so that helps with its longevity but it just seems to be a very well-designed car. It's comfortable on long trips and handles like a sports car in the curves. I get compliments all the time from people who see me driving it - they think it's a newer model than what I'm actually driving. The only two complaints I have are: 1) The seats aren't as comfortable as they could be; they don't seem to conform to your body shape very well, which makes them not as comfortable as they should be after an hour or so of driving; 2) The gas mileage is not great (18-19 mpg), but then again, this is not a Prius or anything, so you probably shouldn't expect much better than that anyway.
My BMW X5 is a beautiful car, fun to drive, and very comfortable. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the cost of maintenance. The repair costs are higher than they should be. This may just be me being picky as I have some knowledge about cars, but I would not recommend this vehicle if you are looking for something inexpensive to maintain. Other than that, it's been great!
