Volvo certainly did not become a household name by making stylish, quick and slightly impractical hatchbacks, so you might think that their attempt to do so wouldn’t be any good, but you’d be wrong. The C30 can get in the ring with any of the best hot hatches, probably owing to the fact that it is related to the previous-generation Euro-spec Ford Focus. It should be said that the C30 is not quite the car that the VW GTI is. The GTI is still king here, but the C30 still stacks up impressively against any of the other cars in its segment, while still being different enough to be that extra bit more interesting.
