The AEV is back with more off-road goodies this summer.
Apparently, Chevy is working on yet another hardcore "Bison" version of its trucks. Previously, we got a look at a Chevy Colorado Bison ZR2 back in 2019, and this looks to be more of the same. On a bigger truck, of course. Chevy says a Chevrolet Silverado Bison ZR2 is coming this summer. Evidently, the Colorado proved popular enough to warrant the Silverado getting the same treatment.
We're expecting more info soon, seeing as it's already mid-June. Fine by us. We'll take our big off-road trucks when we can get them. It's about time Chevrolet took a more hardcore approach to its ZR2 models with the way Ford has been going. Regardless, this one appears to be done in collaboration with AEV, just like the Colorado.
Given that there's already a ZR2 Silverado, we kind of know what to expect here. The trailer shows off a bunch of shadowy exterior shots, most of which tell us exactly nothing. However, the American Expedition Vehicles stamping throughout the car (and the teaser) lets us know what's up.
Some shots on the teaser show the underside of the new, more extreme Silverado, which appears to be pretty beefed up. In fact, you can't really see much of the underside because there's so much underbody protection on this new truck.
Critically, there's a shot of what appears to be the rear differential. The Colorado Bison had beefed up diffs, and we expect more of that here. We also expect some tweaks to the truck's Multimatic shocks, a staple of Chevy's ZR2 models.
As of now, the engine side of things is unclear. We're not sure if AEV will be fiddling with the Silverado ZR2's 420 hp V8, but with the new F-150 Raptor out and about, we won't rule it out. That said, we expect plenty of off-road focused features like locking diffs, winch mounts, tow hooks, and spots for all your overlanding crap.
We're betting that like the Bison-spec Colorado, the Silverado will be getting some interior changes as well. The 2023 update to the Silverado was comprehensive, but we know that AEV will do all it can to make the Silverado Bison a more off-road leaning vehicle than it already is, both inside and out.
