Chrysler Teases New Look For Its Airflow Concept

Teaser / 3 Comments

The embattled automaker seems to be struggling to pick a design path.

More than two years ago, Chrysler revealed drawings of a new concept called the Airflow Vision. Roughly a year later, we saw the concept take on a new life as it drew closer to production and donned more mainstream looks. A year after that, the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show took place in January, with Chrysler revealing the final design of the concept at the expo. Except that this wasn't the final design, apparently. Chrysler today released a teaser image for the Airflow concept, telling us that it was "offering a sneak peek at a potential design path on the brand's journey to an all-electric future with the reveal of a new look for the Chrysler Airflow Concept."

Sadly, one teaser image is all we're privy to, and Chrysler hasn't really explained the rationale behind altering the concept's appearance again. Still, we can glean something from the vague teaser, namely that Chrysler seems to have fallen prey to peer pressure by adding a full-width LED daytime running light accent across the faux grille. This seems to be very much in vogue at the moment, so perhaps Chrysler has chosen to redesign the concept because it already looks a little dated. Whatever the reason, we don't have to wait to find out what new direction Stellantis is taking with the concept because it will be revealed this Wednesday, 13 April, on the first media day of the 2022 New York International Auto Show.

While the styling will change, we suspect that everything else will remain the same. If so, that means up to 400 miles on a single charge, two electric motors of 201 horsepower each (for now; more powerful configurations will follow), and Level 3 autonomous driving capability. Inside, a four-seat layout is paired with the STLA SmartCockput, which features multiple customizable displays. At this point, it's unclear if the inside of the concept will be changing much or at all, but whatever the end result is, Stellantis had better make a decision soon - the Pacifica could do with a new look and Chrysler's first full EV is supposed to launch in 2025.
