The CL is built on the S-Class platform, and is essentially a coupe version of the big car. That makes it a fairly unique vehicle, a cheaper and less new-money alternative to the Bentley Continental GT. It is not exactly discreet though, and is still very much capable of astonishing speeds, all while you are wrapped in fine luxury in the comfortably quiet cabin. It looks quite good, with an understated elegance which the Germans are still capable of, when they try. It is a car for someone who actually has taste, and that’s a rare enough thing that we applaud it.
