Mercedes-Benz recently trademarked the nameplate "EQG," thus indicating an all-electric version of its iconic G-Wagen is in the works. In addition, names "EQG 560" and "EQG 580" were also part of the trademark filing. However, just because the German automaker has guarded the rights to these nameplates doesn't necessarily mean production is a given. Automakers regularly reserve nameplates they may or may not ultimately use for production models; it's best to own the rights now instead of fighting or them later against a rival brand.
If Mercedes pursues the EQG SUV lineup, expect it to share plenty of technology with the rest of its current and upcoming "EQ" branded battery-electric models.
