Ferrari Ready To Fight Red Bull And Mercedes With New F1 Car

Formula One / 8 Comments

Ferrari is in good shape going into the new season.

Scuderia Ferrari recently unveiled its F1 car for the 2022 season. That leaves just Mercedes-AMG and Alpine to show us their interpretation, following the unveiling of the Red Bull and McLaren F1 cars earlier this week.

Ferrari is synonymous with Formula 1 and is currently the oldest team on the grid. Yes, Alfa Romeo is technically older, but it took a long hiatus from the sport.

The F1-75 is the 68th F1 car Ferrari has presented to the world, and it arrives in a special year for the brand. The company is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding this year. The anniversary is reflected in the celebratory logo, alongside the Italian flag, a long-time feature on Ferrari Formula 1 cars.

F1-75 sports an entirely new look and a stunning Rosso and Nero livery, also found on the drivers' racing suits. The 2022 car is completely new, except for the engine.

Like the rest of the teams, Ferrari had a brand-new set of rules to work with. These include new aerodynamic features to ensure closer racing, the return of a ground effect after a forty-year absence, and an increase in tire size to 18 inches.

Ferrari did not stop there, however. Among the elements that stand out are the lower nose and the bodywork, where particular attention has been paid to the packaging of the power unit (PU) and its ancillary parts to achieve the best possible aerodynamic performance.

Speaking of, we know Ferrari's PU is particularly strong. Ferrari changed a few things late in the 2021 season, which helped it overtake McLaren to claim third place in the constructor's championship.

If Ferrari managed to get the rest of the car right, it places them in an excellent position going into the 2022 season. At the very least, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz should be able to score more podiums this year. Antonio Giovinazzi and Mick Schumacher have been appointed as reserve drivers.

Sainz, a beloved down-to-earth young man, famously drove a VW Golf until last year when Ferrari blessed him with a new 812 Competizione.

"The F1-75 is the expression of the talent, commitment, and passion of each and every one of us. It is the end result of the work of a team that, like never before, has tackled the task with a new spirit and approach, pushing to the maximum in terms of innovation of every component, every detail, every solution. Striving to be innovative gave us an incredible boost in our daily work, on the way to producing this car. I am proud of the work that has gone into designing the F1-75. We know that expectations are high and we are ready to go up against our opponents. That's the best part of this challenge and it's what makes our work so fascinating. I would like the F1-75 to be the car that allows our fans to once again be proud of Ferrari. Our goal is to reignite the Prancing Horse legend and we can only do that by winning again. That will require a fast car and two great drivers and we have them," said Mattia Binotto, Team Principal & Managing Director.
