Forza Motorsport Will Rewrite The Racing Sim Rulebook In 4K

Keen gamers and car fanatics will delight in Turn 10's latest announcement - the imminent arrival of an all-new Forza Motorsport. Following the discontinuation of the seventh installment of the series, fans have been patiently waiting for the replacement. Judging by the gameplay demo, it'll be worth the wait.

Slated for a spring 2023 introduction, developers say the latest addition will "immerse you in the spectacle of racing [as] you've never seen it before" thanks to cutting-edge graphics and advanced car damage, among other things. The gaming studio describes Forza Motorsport as the most "technically-advanced racing game ever made."

That's a big claim, but it's backed up by some impressive state-of-the-art capabilities. Giving the game a more realistic look than ever before is the dynamic time of day system. Incredibly, this allows each and every track - of which there are many - to experience changing weather and temperature patterns. Aside from the dramatic visuals, these changes affect track surfaces and vehicle grip - heightening the racing experience.

Aside from engaging vehicle dynamics and changing weather conditions, environments are so detailed and life-like that racers may want to stop and admire the view. The imagery has been captured using photogrammetry and 3D material scans while advanced rendering and procedural generation techniques bring a new level of realism to the track.

Things that often aren't paid attention to (3D vegetation, grass, and clouds, for example) now look even more realistic than before and, together with Forward+ lighting and physically based lights, make for really convincing graphics. This can be seen in the first few seconds of the trailer seen above; where the reflection of a racecar in a puddle can fool even the most seasoned players.

Turn 10 has listened to Forza fans and responded appropriately. Die-hard gamers asked for tire and fuel management, features that will be introduced in the upcoming game. What's more, multiple tire compounds and an all-new in-depth car building feature will allow for more engagement.

The developers have even changed the way they approach vehicle damage. In Forza Motorsport, minor blemishes and scratches will be presented, while new simulation effects will show different damage based on the crash and direction of impact. This results in unique paint wear and even dirt build-up.

There's plenty to look forward to. Iconic circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps and Laguna Seca make an appearance in the trailer too, with Turn 10 noting additional tracks such as South Africa's Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and the all-new Circuit Hakone will be available. The latter was specially developed to "showcase the technically advanced, state-of-the-art immersion of the new Forza Motorsport."

Like older installments of the game, there seems to be something for everyone. The trailer showcases a bevy of exciting vehicles, from drag-racing Chevrolet Camaros to drifting Toyota Supras, and the race version of the Chevrolet Corvette, the C8.R, will appear too.
