Genesis X Speedium Coupe Previews A Sexy EV Future

The Genesis X Concept arrived last year, and it dropped everyone's jaws. This fully-electric EV is the ultimate culmination of the Genesis brand's one-of-a-kind styling, and we couldn't wait to see it reach production. Though it's not the production announcement we were hoping for, today Korean luxury automaker announced the new Genesis X Speedium Coupe at its Genesis House in New York City. Named after the Inje Speedium racetrack in South Korea, this new concept moves the Genesis X Concept's design a bit closer to production.

"This car is an open-door moment in Genesis' journey towards our future EV design," said Luc Donckerwolke, chief creative officer of Genesis. "This isn't a show car - it's a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis' DNA."

The overall shape remains, but the details have evolved. For example, the Two Lines headlamps now stretch across the front end, including below the triangular "grille" area. This lighting signature mimics the Genesis Crest Grille, integrating the low beam and high beam together in one element. From the side, the Genesis X Speedium exudes a streamlined elegance, albeit with a more bulbous rear end that strongly resembles the evolution from Jaguar E-Type Coupe to the E-Type 2+2. Though it keeps the bright green brake calipers from the previous concept, the Speedium receives a more intricate wheel pattern. We love how the bright green stands out from the metallic "Inje Green" paint, which inspired by the Inje Speedium's mountainous landscape.

Unfortunately, Genesis did not provide any performance specs the last time, and it hasn't added any now. Likewise, no photos are included of the interior, so we can't speak on any changes from the previous concept.

Genesis still hasn't confirmed if the X Speedium Coupe will reach production in any capacity, but the brand promises it will offer six EV models by 2030, starting with the upcoming Genesis GV60. Buyers who would like to purchase the GV60 can now use the Genesis Priority One purchase experience program. By providing their contact information and a $500 refundable deposit, customer will be matched with a qualified dealer to purchase the car. Unfortunately, the program is only available in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York.

Along with the new concept, Genesis also announced that its Electrified GV70 SUV will enter production at a new Montgomery, Alabama plant starting in December 2022.
