We hope those cool lighting graphics carry over.
Around the middle of last year, we came across evidence that Chevrolet would be turning the Equinox into an electric crossover. Just a couple of short months later, we got official confirmation of just such a thing, along with the promise of a $30,000 price tag. With stylish looks and an affordable asking price, this new crossover has plenty of fence-sitters contemplating the electric revolution more seriously, but it will still be a while before we get to see the final product. Teaser images were revealed in January, but General Motors wants to make sure that we don't forget about the Chevrolet Equinox EV until it arrives, so another new teaser has just been released.
The short video clip is accompanied by a simple caption: "As the sun sets on winter, it's time for a new beginning." And cars like the Equinox really are a new beginning for the Chevrolet brand and GM as a whole. Chevrolet vice president Steve Hill said in January that "the Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate" and that "providing an affordable EV option in the industry's highest-volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone."
But this won't be a blase, half-assed attempt at a quick buck. The Equinox EV is set to be underpinned by GM's Ultium platform, which is commonly associated with high-end EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV.
The Equinox EV is slated to enter the market in fall 2023 and will be offered in LT and RS trims with both retail and fleet variants available. The RS will be the first to arrive, with LT availability "to be announced at a later date." Pricing, range, power, and options are still a long way from being revealed in detail, but Chevrolet is aiming for a $30,000 cost of entry. If that does happen, the bowtie brand will be in a great position to undercut the likes of Ford, Hyundai, and Volkswagen.
Naturally, pricing will swell with options like a two-tone color scheme as seen in the video and SuperCruise semi-autonomous driving tech, but as a reasonably affordable and accessible EV with broad appeal, it looks like Chevy has got the basics down right. We'll know more closer to the new EV's reveal.
