The Grand Vitara is an interesting blend of car and truck chassis design. Most crossovers are built on car platforms and mainly just incorporate truck styling and a higher ride height, while traditional SUV design uses a truck platform. The Grand Vitara is perhaps one of the best compromises on the market, as a result of the way it splits the difference between the two. Previous generations were less successful at this, but Suzuki has done much better with this generation. It is worth mentioning that the Grand Vitara (or Escudo, as it is known in some markets) is the basis for Suzuki’s hugely successful Pikes Peak rally monsters
