As part of the new era of Maserati post-MC20, every future Maserati product will feature some form of electrification, with most of them being available in the fully-electric form alongside gas and hybrid propulsion. One such product is the 2024 Maserati Grecale Folgore, which will be the full-electric version of the recently revealed Grecale crossover and the first EV SUV for the Trident brand. As a compact luxury performance EV crossover, the new Maserati Grecale Folgore already has a rival inbound in the form of the electric Porsche Macan, due to arrive at the same time. Built on a modified version of the Giorgio platform that underpins the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the Grecale Folgore already has the foundations right. It just needs to deliver the final product everyone wants.
At the reveal of the gas-fed Grecale, Maserati revealed the full design of the 2024 Folgore SUV. However, the crossover itself isn't yet ready for release, and will only arrive at the tail-end of 2023 as a 2024 model. A firm release date for the Maserati Grecale Folgore in the USA will be confirmed at a later date.
It's too soon to know final pricing, but EVs are becoming more attainable by the year compared to combustion-powered models, so we have a feeling the Folgore will be comparable to an upper-spec version of the ICE Grecale. Being a luxury crossover, a six-figure MSRP isn't beyond the realms of possibility, so expect the 2024 Maserati Grecale Folgore price to start at around $100,000.
The Maserati Grecale Folgore EV will mimic the regular Grecale's design strongly. However, in place of a traditional grille up front, a modified version with offset vertical design elements will feature. Certain hallmarks will remain, like the trident badge, headlights inspired by those on the MC20 supercar, and the triple fender vents that have become a signature of the brand. The exterior badges of the Maserati Grecale Folgore will have yellow surrounds to discern this model from its combustion counterparts. LED headlights and flush door handles will remain, while at the rear, the diffuser will still be prominent despite lacking exhaust outlets. A range of interesting colors for the Maserati Grecale Folgore is expected, including blues, reds, blacks, and silvers, as well as more demure offerings like browns and beiges as displayed at launch.
The dimensions of the Grecale Folgore will mimic those of the regular model at 198.8 inches long with a 114.2-inch wheelbase. It'll be 85.2 inches wide and 65.7 inches tall. Curb weight will be the biggest difference, as we expect more than 4,400 lbs.
Forget about the Nettuno V6 engine, the Folgore suffix on the Maserati Grecale name denotes that combustion is out and electrons are in. We don't know much about the specs of its powertrain yet, but you can bet it will have at least two electric motors and all-wheel drive, and 500 horsepower is all but guaranteed. The motors will likely be new from the Stellantis brand umbrella and will be the same features in electric muscle cars coming from Dodge. 0-60 mph will likely be a sub-four-second affair.
The lone detail Maserati has given is that the Grecale Folgore will feature 400-volt charging architecture. That means fll fast charging capabilities that should replenish approximately 80kWh of charge in under 15 minutes. Just how big the battery pack will be remains a mystery, but the golden number appears to be around 100kWh, so the electric range will likely be around 350 miles or more.
Don't expect many changes to the interior of the Maserati Grecale Folgore which seats five. It may have model-specific touches like contrast stitching and bespoke electric displays inside, but it will remain effectively the same two-row crossover. Screens abound with a 12.3-inch infotainment display, an 8.8-inch secondary screen, and a rear touchscreen for climate controls in the back, all powered by the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system. A Sonus Faber sound system with up to 21 speakers will feature, although that will likely bear a cost and a base model will feature 14 speakers.
Ample, albeit not class-leading trunk space is expected - less than 30 cubic feet with the rear seats up. However, the rear bench will be able to fold for more practicality.
