The covers have just come off the Maserati Grecale, an upscale performance SUV that will take the fight straight to the Porsche Macan. Topping the lineup is the Grecale Trofeo which comes with a mighty 3.0-liter V6 Nettuno engine based on the one in the MC20. With 523 horsepower, it's significantly more powerful than the Macan GTS. Usually, automakers make us wait for the go-faster versions of new reveals, but we're happy that the Grecale Trofeo arrives at the same time as more accessible versions of the crossover. Other changes to the Trofeo variant include a widened track, a standard air suspension, and a hyper-responsive Corsa mode.

The Maserati Grecale Trofeo's release date is scheduled for sometime in fall 2022 in the USA. Other trims, including the GT and Modena, will be coming out at the same time.
The 2023 Maserati Grecale Trofeo's price has not been revealed yet, but we expect it to land with an MSRP of around $85,000. That would make it just over $20,000 pricier than the regular Grecale. By comparison, it will cost you $79,900 for the Porsche Macan GTS, but this makes only 434 hp and isn't as quick as the Trofeo. Other rivals include the BMW X3 M/X4 M.
Not everyone has been blown away by the design of the Maserati Grecale Trofeo's exterior, with many feeling it's too subtle for a vehicle bearing the famous Maserati badge. The Trofeo attempts to add a touch of aggression with a grille that is shifted marginally forward and which has black-plated lines. At the back, there are boomerang taillights said to be inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT, and the Trofeo has a slightly wider rear track. Bigger 21-inch alloy wheels are two inches bigger than those on the base Grecale, there are carbon fiber inserts on the front/rear bumpers, and there's a special exhaust with quad-exit tailpipes.
The complete range of Maserati Grecale Trofeo colors hasn't yet been revealed, but the car looks good in the vibrant shade of yellow pictured here.
The 2023 Maserati Grecal Trofeo's dimensions are slightly greater than those of the Porsche Macan. It measures 191.3 inches in length, 77.9 inches in width, 65.3 inches in height, and rides on a 114.2-inch wheelbase. Due to the Trofeo's unique styling touches, it's around half an inch longer than the base Grecale, and wider too.
The homologated weight of the new Maserati Grecale Trofeo crossover is 4,469 pounds, only around 70 lbs more than the Macan GTS.
With impressive specs of 523 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, the 2023 Maserati Grecale Trofeo's engine - a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 based on the Nettuno V6 found in the MC20 supercar - is hardly found wanting. In the Grecale Trofeo, the engine has a wet sump in place of a dry one and comes with cylinder deactivation technology.
Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive with a limited-slip self-locking electronic rear differential, the Trofeo will haul itself from 0-60 mph in only 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of around 177 mph. There are multiple drive modes but only the Trofeo comes with a Corsa Mode that quickens gear changes, activates launch control, and reduces interference from the traction control system. Right now, EPA-rated mpg ratings haven't yet been published, but Maserati says the Trofeo can return a combined 11.2 liters per 100 km; that translates to about 21 mpg.
The Maserati Grecale Trofeo's interior is packed with all the comforts and technologies expected of an SUV at this level. Inside, there's the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) multimedia system that boasts a 12.3-inch screen which is the largest fitted to any Maserati model. It supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition. A second 8.8-inch panel provides access to extra controls, and there's even a touchscreen for those at the back to control their own ventilation settings as part of the three-zone climate control system. The Sonus faber sound system provides excellent sound reproduction from up to 21 speakers dotted around the interior.
Being a Maserati, the interior is finished in generous lashings of leather and carbon fiber. A predominantly black environment is lifted by bright contrast stitching in yellow or red, but there are also two-tone combinations like black/dark red and black/ice. The Maserati Grecale Trofeo's seats in both the first and second row are embroidered with the brand's logo and attractive contrast stitching. The cargo space in the Maserati Grecale Trofeo measures just over 20 cubic feet, which is smaller than many other crossovers but more than what the Porsche Macan can manage.
