Following multiple teasers over the past several months, the 2023 Maserati Grecale has finally been revealed. Slotted beneath the larger Levante SUV in the lineup, the compact Grecale SUV is aimed directly at the likes of the Porsche Macan and BMW X3. The Grecale rides on the same Giorgio platform as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which is also part of the Stellantis brand family. Maserati has high hopes for the Grecale due to the segment's vast popularity in key regions such as North America, Europe, and China. But the big question is whether or not Maserati has built an Italian compact SUV that can successfully put a dent into the sales of its German rivals.

The 2023 Maserati Grecale launch date is happening right now, but only for the special Modena Limited Edition. Sales for the regular trims will begin at a later date. Deliveries will begin in the fall of 2022.
The Maserati Grecale pricing begins at $63,500. Those who plan to cross-shop the competition should be aware that this is costlier than the Porsche Macan, which bases at $54,900, as well as the BMW X3 ($43,700), and Audi Q5 ($43,300). Despite the price differences, potential buyers should know the Grecale comes standard with more power than any of its German rivals. A few other competitors in the luxury compact crossover segment include the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Lexus RX, and the Cadillac XT5.
The new Maserati Grecale exterior features unique Italian styling that gives it a sexier appearance and overall attitude than much of the competition. The front grille boasts a low and imposing style with some influence taken from the MC20 supercar. This is complemented by a muscular body. At the rear, you'll find boomerang-style taillights that are directly inspired by the legendary Giugiaro 3200 GT.
The Maserati Grecale measures 191 inches in length, 66 inches in height, 85 inches wide, with a wheelbase of 114 inches. These are typical dimensions for this segment. To compare, the Porsche Macan's dimensions are 186-inches in length, 76 inches wide, and with a height of up to 64 inches.
The 2023 Maserati Grecale price is somewhat expensive for the segment but what's under the hood helps make up for that. The standard engine found in the base Grecale GT is a four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine producing 296 horsepower. The mid-range Modena offers the same powertrain but output has been increased to 330 hp. The top-of-the-line Grecale Trofeo and its full details and powertrain are covered in a separate review. The all-electric Grecale Folgore will debut at a later date.
Performance times for the GT and Modena trims have not been revealed at this time. Regardless of trim and engine choice, the Grecale comes with the new Maserati Vehicle Dynamic Control Module system with five driving modes: Comfort, GT, Sport, and Off-Road. A performance-focused Corsa is for the Trofeo only.
With seating for up to five passengers, the 2023 Maserati Grecale interior features a 12.3-inch central screen (the largest ever in a Maserati) and an 8.8-inch screen for additional vehicle controls. The Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system is standard while a Sonus Faber 3D sound system with 14 or 21 speakers is optional. Another cool feature is the traditional Maserati clock, now digital for the first time, that rests on top of the touchscreen. Materials like wood, carbon fiber, and leather are found in abundance throughout the Maserati Grecale interior.
The Maserati Grecale dimensions and trunk/cargo space have not been revealed yet though this should happen before this fall's launch date. Information regarding the Maserati Grecale seats and their color options are currently unknown. The Maserati Grecale colors also remain unknown for now, with the exception of the limited launch edition that's offered in Bianco (white), Nero Tempesta (black), Blu Intenso (blue), Grigio Lava (grey), and Rosso Granturismo (red). Under the hood, the Maserati Grecale engine is a four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine with an output of either 296 or 330 hp, based on chosen trim.
