Every Infiniti SUV exudes a sense of splendor encompassing sharp and upscale aesthetics and luxurious, featureful interiors. These are qualities that the brand bestows on its SUVs atop those that are inherent in the popular classification - a commanding ride height, well-rounded performance, and great everyday practicality. Sport utility vehicles are immensely popular in the USA and Infiniti makes some excellent options. As the luxury division of Japanese automaker Nissan, we can expect the same characteristics of reliability and consistency to carry over.
Infiniti SUV and Crossover Range
There’s a good selection of sport-utility vehicles in the current Infiniti SUV lineup, each of which is offered with a variety of models with various types of powertrains:
- QX50: Under the hood of the QX50, Infiniti’s small crossover offering, is a 2.0-liter turbo-four variable compression engine that develops 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The engine is designed to deliver optimal acceleration performance when needed, and maximum fuel efficiency when cruising, but never does either really impressively. The QX50 has a plush interior that’s well-built and packed with modern creature comforts and conveniences. All trims also come comprehensively outfitted with driver-assist technologies, which, together with the ample passenger and cargo room, make the QX50 ideal for young families.
- QX55: Destined to hit the US market in 2022, the QX55 will be a coupe-styled crossover version of the QX50. A 268-hp, 280-lb-ft turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will power the intelligent all-wheel-drive system of all three trims in the lineup. The crossover carries a provocative, sleek exterior aesthetic, with sharp LED headlights and an origami-inspired mesh grille at the front end. The cabin interior is very similar to that of the QX50’s but still carries its own flair with various color schemes offered for the trims. The QX55 SUV is the first Infiniti car to come with wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
- QX60: As a midsize luxury SUV proffered for less than $50,000, the QX60 is a very high value-for-money proposition. Though not quite as entertaining to drive as an Audi SUV with its fancy quattro AWD setups, for example, or as premium as one of the otherGerman contenders in the luxury classification, the QX60’s 3.5-liter V6 still provides more than adequate power and it comes standard with a long list of creature comforts and conveniences. It’s a 7-seater with three-rows, though, as with most three-row SUVs in the midsize segment, only the first and second rows are truly commodious - the third-row is only adequate for children. And, a major update is coming for 2022 to make the flagship even more spectacular.
- QX80: A powerful 5.6-liter V8 mill, coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission, powers the full-size QX80. The large Infiniti crossover SUV has three rows of seating on the inside and the 3rd-row is as spacious as the front, thanks to its massive dimensions. The second-row is fitted with two captain’s chairs as standard, which can be swapped out for a three-person bench, making the QX80 an 8-passenger cruiser. Despite some mediocre crashworthiness ratings, the QX80’s size makes it a really safe vehicle on the road, too. It’s definitely not the most engaging vehicle and can actually feel really disconnected; it is, however, phenomenally comfortable.
