Lando Norris Signs New $80 Million Deal With McLaren

McLaren recently announced that Land Norris signed a multi-year contract extension. Norris made his F1 debut in 2019, and we believe he will be a world champion at some point during his career.

Rumor has it, Norris did some shopping around last year as his contract was set to run out, but McLaren stepped in and offered him a reported $20 million per year until 2025. If these rumors are true, Norris will be earning the same amount per year as Fernando Alonso. Only Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen make more per year.

As we see it, it's a worthwhile investment considering the British-Belgian driver's performance in 2021. He nearly won the Sochi Grand Prix, and we hope his first victory comes this year.

Norris also outperformed his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who most people believed was the number one driver at McLaren.

Ricciardo finished the 2021 season in eighth place on 115 points, while his younger teammate finished in sixth place on 160 points. Considering Ricciardo had one victory in 2021, that's no small feat. Honestly, we're still surprised he doesn't have a McLaren 720S named after him. Perhaps that only comes with an outright victory, as it did with Danny Ric?

For most of the season, Norris and Ricciardo's performances on track also helped the team hold on to third place in the constructor's championship.

A few late engine changes to the Ferraris eventually pushed McLaren down to fourth.

"Last season was another great step, both in my career and the team's performance, and I see and feel all the work, investment, and commitment for the team to be in a position to challenge for wins and titles in the future. This all gives me huge confidence looking forward, so it was a natural decision to extend our relationship for the next few years."
