Buy Used Lexus Models

Debuted as early as 2019, the Lexus LC Convertible is currently the sole name in the range of 2021 Lexus convertible models. However, when you consider how appealing it is, there is no doubt that we will see more convertible cars from Lexus in coming years. Though the LC Convertible shares much with its coupe sibling, it only offers a single powertrain, with no hybrid alternative. It doesn’t need a long list of powertrain options, though, since the 471-horsepower V8 under the hood is all it will ever need. As powerful as it is glorious to listen to, this power plant is what avails the convertible with its sports car-like performance, though the rest of the vehicle is focused purely on luxury and comfort.

New Lexus Convertible Models

There is only a single model in the range of convertible cars from Lexus, namely the LC. Nevertheless, it is an impressive piece of engineering with advanced specifications and a lot to offer. The LC Convertible is powered by a compact 2UR-GSE V8 engine. The drop-top cruiser gets access to a whopping 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, which is directed to the rear wheels. This enables a quick sprint time of just 4.6 seconds. When pushed to the limits, it is able to reach a top speed of 168 mph. However, all of this performance comes at a serious cost to fuel economy, with the EPA rating the sports car at just 15/25/18 mpg across the city/highway/combined cycles. This laissez-faire approach to spending extends to the cabin, where the materials are opulent and build quality top-notch. All of this results in a truly comfortable cruiser, but only two are truly able to enjoy the experiences since the back seats are not really fit for humans of any size.

Lexus Convertible Models and Price List

Though announced as early as 2019, the LC is actually a new vehicle for 2021 , rather than a 2020 Lexus convertible. You will struggle to find a much lower price for the Lexus convertible than its stated MSRP below, even when looking at the used market. You also have very little choice if you have your heart set on the brand, since there are no other Lexus convertible models on the list to choose from.

Model Power Engine Base Price
Lexus IS Convertible 204 hp 2.5L V6 Gas $43,360
Lexus LC Convertible 471 hp 5.0L V8 Gas $101,100
Lexus SC Convertible 288 hp 4.3L V8 Gas $68,405

What to Consider Before Buying Lexus Convertible Cars

An expensive new Lexus convertible is the reserve of the lucky few and certain trade-offs are accepted for cars with a two-door convertible configuration. There is plenty to make up for this, though:

Pros

  • Unmatched material and build quality
  • Very luxurious and comfortable
  • Seamless blend of athleticism and refinement
  • Excellent performance courtesy of V8 engine
  • Striking 2-door styling

Cons

  • Cramped trunk with limited small-item storage
  • Poor fuel consumption
  • Cannot hide its weight in corners
  • Dramatic styling may require some getting used to
  • Although it’s a 4-seater, rear seats extremely cramped
  • No AWD option

FAQs

Can I get automated parking on an LC Convertible?

Considering all its blind spots with the top up, unfortunately not. The parking assistant is only available on the coupe. At least you still have the standard backup camera to help make things a little easier.

Is the LC Convertible a proper sports car?

No, but it is a luxurious, open-top GT which you can read more about in the official review. Its lardy weight of over 4,540 lbs conspires against it and, although handling is good, it is no true sports car.

Should I buy the LC Convertible, despite its middling reviews and ratings?

The LC is definitely worth consideration. The naturally aspirated V8 convertible is a dying breed and being ensconced in superbly built luxury while listening to that glorious engine is worth every cent. There won’t ever be another LC like this for sale in the US, making it well worth the price. It really does offer some of the best drop-top driving experiences in the segment.
