It’s still regarded as a subcompact but it comes equipped with a more powerful 2.5-liter inline-four motor with an even more potent turbocharged version optional for top-tier guises.
• CX-5: Definitely one of the favorites, the CX-5 delivers exceptional value for the money and is the best-selling of all the Mazda SUV models. It carries the same motor as its smaller counterparts but slots into the midsize segment by accord of its larger dimensions. Adding to its exceptional value is a plush interior and comprehensive suite of advanced passenger protection features.
• CX-9: As a midsize cruiser, the CX-9 arrives with a third row of seating as standard, cementing it as a 7-passenger carrier. Its four-cylinder engine is dialed up a notch for 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, to compensate for the extra weight of the 3rd row, which is notably cramped and best reserved for young children. There are second-row captain’s chairs available, too, though this converts the 7-seater into a 6-seater.
• MX-30: Scheduled to debut in early 2021, the all-new MX-30 will be the manufacturer’s first-ever all-electric vehicle. Details are still speculative but the EV is expected to compare directly with the Kia Niro and Hyundai Kona EV in terms of capability and cost.
