Sometimes, you should just be grateful for what you have.
You can currently buy a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS tyled to look like a 2010 Camaro with a bit of homage to the 2012 COPO Camaro thrown in. The car we speak of is currently for sale for $7,900, and it has 140,703 miles on the clock.
If you thought the earlier combination of design elements sounded odd, you'd be 100% correct. While we're big fans of individuality and placing your own personal stamp on a car, some things should not exist. This Camaro mash-up reminds us of that terrible R8-based LaFerrari replica, though it's not quite as offensive.
The problem here is incorporating two utterly different design languages into one odd disproportional mess.
The third-generation Camaro was very much a product of the '80s. It has a sleek, sharp front end with a long hood and a nicely sculpted rear end. But then Chevy decided to go retro when it introduced the fifth-generation model. Its bulbous looks made it a huge success, and it even landed a starring role in the Transformers movie.
The fifth-gen's rear blends (relatively) well with the older car's fastback design. But the main problem is the side profile and the front end. From the B-pillar forward, it looks like it has just given up on life. It sags more than Eeyore's face, which isn't a good look.
And let's not forget about the COPO homage, which dates back to the original 1969 ZL-1 Camaro.
That hood scoop is excessive, considering it has a 5.0-liter V8 under the hood. It only produces 170 horsepower, but at least the car comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission. The engine is neat, however. Even with over 140,000 miles on the clock, it's surprisingly clean.
The interior is stock, but what do you expect for eight grand? It's not a particularly lovely interior, but the owner seems to have taken care of it over the years.
If nothing else, this appears to be a third-gen Camaro that has been loved for most of its life but, unfortunately, destroyed by questionable taste.
What do you guys think? A good mod or a dumpster fire that should be put to death?
