The rumors say it will be unveiled at Goodwood.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is certainly one of the most hotly anticipated cars of the year and based on everything we've seen from past spy shots, it appears that the inimitable supercar will be wilder than ever. A truly enormous rear wing with a drag reduction system will feature for the first time, along with a host of new aerodynamic enhancements that we haven't seen before. Last month, we saw the car on public roads, and before that, it was being tortured at the Nurburgring, and that's where it is again for this latest batch of photos. But the location is not what we're interested in here.
What's exciting about these spy shots is that they show the car fully exposed, with no camouflage covering the aggressive body. We'll start at the back, with that massive rear wing. As you can see, it has two supports on each side, with these sited just above a subtle ducktail spoiler. The rear bumper cuts away from the fenders with something of an air curtain that we presume will help channel air to the low-pressure area created by the large diffuser. Down the profile, centerlock wheels reside in the beefy arches while the side skirts double as supports for an additional air curtain behind the front wheels, channeling air to the intakes in the rear.
Interestingly, this is the first time that Porsche has been caught testing the GT3 RS without covering those intakes in the rear haunches. Guides on the roof presumably help channel air to that huge rear wing.
The front arches have now been exposed to show just how aggressive the vents in the fenders are. Angled up and outwards, these will surely reduce pressure in the front wheel wells more efficiently than ever before. An additional upright aero appendage on the front bumper is again acting as an air curtain, with this part of a front splitter.
Now for the hood. This has gigantic ducts that will again help with aerodynamics and based on how open these are, we suspect that either this prototype is not showing the production hood or Porsche is intending to make this another active element with movable flaps.
According to the rumor mill, we won't have long to wait to find out the truth; it is said that the car will be fully unveiled at this week's Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking place from Thursday 23 June-Sunday 26 June.
