Official: Ford Suspends All 2022 Maverick Orders

Ford has been on a roll lately. New models like the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, Bronco, Bronco Sport, and now the Maverick are proving to be way more popular than expected. It's not a bad problem to have but it's still a problem. The good news is that Ford is working extra hard to accommodate hopeful buyers but patience will still be required on their part. The latest reason for patience is the Maverick.

A member of the Maverick Truck Club forum has managed to obtain a dealership memo just sent out today stating that the Blue Oval has suspended all Maverick orders until this summer. This applies to both the Hybrid and EcoBoost models.

The memo specifically states that dealers have until January 27 (this Thursday) to submit orders for the 2022 Maverick EcoBoost gasoline model; the order books for the Hybrid were closed last November. Order books won't open again until sometime this summer for the 2023 models. CarBuzz reached out to Mike Levine, vehicle communications manager for Ford North America, to confirm the news. We were told the following:

"There's been overwhelming demand for Maverick - both hybrid and EcoBoost. We're making the decision to stop taking new retail orders on the 2022 Ford Maverick starting after January 27 to focus on existing orders. Customers may still be able to purchase a Maverick on the lot at their local Ford dealer. We'll kick off ordering for the 2023 Maverick starting in the summer. We also will keep a list of hand-raisers, to notify customers when Maverick ordering reopens."

And there we have it. The Blue Oval's latest success story is essentially completely sold out for its first model year, save for the unsold examples on dealer lots. It's still too soon to know what changes (if any) are in store for 2023. Ideally, we'd love to see the Hybrid powertrain receive an all-wheel drive option, currently a $2,220 option on the EcoBoost model. That engine is already a $1,085 option.

During our latest Maverick test drive, we specifically noted that an AWD Hybrid could become the lineup's sweet spot. Ford told us at the time this was being considered but no decisions have been made. Fingers crossed.
