Official: Nissan Has A Striking New Logo

A new brand identity has arrived after 19 years.

Like every other corporate entity in the world, automakers need to appear relevant to continue attracting customers. While this can mean new products, it can also mean a new corporate identity, and with it, a new logo. Recently, BMW updated its logo with a simplified design, and before that, Volkswagen unveiled a logo intended to highlight its commitment to electric cars - a good idea considering the brand's questionable approach to emissions in the past. Now Nissan has revealed a new logo too. We first saw the new logo a few months back when the global trademarking process was still underway, but now it's officially what we'll see on new models going forward, the first of which is the Ariya electric crossover.

In case you missed it, the Ariya has just been unveiled, and it seems to be the Tesla-fighter it was expected to be. But the real news here is that there is a new logo for Nissan - not which car it debuts on. In the video above, it seems that Nissan is also using its new logo to call nature to mind, and put a greater emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly vehicles. Various iterations of the logo are shown, each with a tie to nature. Feathers, grass, water, ice, and Japan's famous cherry blossoms are all used to depict the new logo. Nissan calls this "awakening the elements."

How exactly this logo will appear on future models is yet to be ascertained. On the abovementioned Ariya, it lights up but is placed on a shadow of the old logo. We expect that future cars that aren't electric will feature the logo in some sort of metallic badge with eight individual pieces. Let's hope that getting the car washed won't see you driving home in a Nissa or an Issan. Regardless of how it's used, we think it looks simplistic, sleek, elegant, and just plain cool. The simplistic design ought to look pretty impressive on the spate of new cars coming from Nissan, particularly the upcoming Nissan 400Z.
