While up to 186 miles of range can be added in just 15 minutes.

With the Mercedes EQS debuting in just a few weeks, more details about the German automaker's new flagship electric sedan are starting to emerge. Last week, we got a first look inside the ludicrously luxurious interior, which includes a massive 55-inch "Hyperscreen" spanning almost the entire width of the dashboard. Now, Mercedes has confirmed the EQS will have a driving range of up to 478 miles based on the European WLTP test cycle.

This is higher than previous estimates, as the German automaker first confirmed the EQS will have a range of "more than 435 miles." The EQS will be sold with a variety of different battery options, including a 108-kWh pack that will likely provide the highest range.

In the US, the stricter EPA-estimated estimate will likely be around 335 miles. This would fall short of the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, which offers up to 402 miles of range according to EPA estimates, but this is still impressive considering that the EQS is larger and in a luxury class of its own.

According to Mercedes, up to 186 miles of range can be added in just 15 minutes using a high-speed charger. Helping the EQS achieve this high driving range is its aerodynamically efficient body. With a drag coefficient of 0.20, Mercedes claims the EQS has the lowest aerodynamic drag of any production car in the world. The Toyota Prius is rated at 0.24, for the record.

As for the drivetrain, the EQS will be powered by two electric motors providing the all-wheel-drive setup. Power outputs for the production model haven't been confirmed yet, but teasers have shown the production EQS will adopt a sleek design incorporating a coupe-style roofline, a low front end, and frameless doors.

The covers will come off the production Mercedes EQS on April 15, two years after the Vision EQS concept debuted. After it debuts, sales for the flagship electric sedan will start this August in Europe.
