Koenigsegg have not made a name for themselves by building merely competitive sporting machines, no, they specialize in the dark art of the 1000hp+ supercar. The CC8 set the template for what was to come, even this first attempt was capable of 240 mph and the culmination of their engineering expertise was demonstrated in 2014 with the introduction of the curiously named One:1.

This is to date the most expensive and powerful model ever offered by Koenigsegg and was offered in a tiny production run. And that name?

It refers to its 1 horsepower to 1 kilogram power ratio, a figure that has yet to be surpassed by its competitors and which gives it some world-class performance figures.

Based on the equally outlandish Agera, the One:1 has gone on an intense weight-saving program to give it that magical power-to-weight ratio. The interior is still a futuristic looking design with the large, round illuminated dial controlling most of the car's functions placed in the center of the dashboard. Above it is the infotainment system and a set of air vents.

The seats are designed to offer the highest level of support in extreme driving situations and a racing style six-point harness keeps you in place. Carbon-fiber, Alcantara and high-quality plastics cover every surface.

An available noise cancellation system uses the speakers to lower the cabin noise levels, storage space is in short supply as the small trunk space has been reduced due to aerodynamic changes over the Agera R.

Weighing under 3000 pounds and producing a massive amount of power, the One:1 should offer near instantaneous responses from the throttle pedal that are backed up by a claimed progressive braking feel and accurate but not over-assisted steering.

Few have driven this ultra-rare coupe but those who have claim that while the ride is predictably firm the car absorbs most bumps capably, an impressive feat considering the track-biased setup and solid non-rubber mounting points.

Rear-wheel drive means that deploying anything near maximum power on anything but bone-dry grippy surfaces will have the traction control flickering madly and restricting forward progress. In the right conditions, grip levels from the specially developed Michelin Cup 2 tires should be very impressive though and the huge adjustable rear wing and various aerodynamic modifications actually increase traction as speeds rise.

A GPS linked suspension system means that the car can adjust its differential, dampers and stability control parameters on a racetrack and new track info can be uploaded remotely.

The One:1 uses a modified version of the Agera R's 5-litre twin-turbo V8, in that model it produces 1140 horsepower, in the One:1 it is 1360 hp. Torque is a massive 1011 lb-ft and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronic differential attempt to put most of it down on the road.

The total power output available does depend on what sort of fuel is used, either regular, racing fuel or E85 ethanol, however the claimed 0-60 mph time is well under the 3-second mark with either fuel and even more impressive is a claimed 0-250 mph time of 20-seconds.

That sort of performance should see it outpace just about every other supercar and hypercar around. Judging by the recent production car world speed records set by the less powerful Agera RS, the One:1 may well be the fastest vehicle on the planet.

Standard equipment includes 19/20-inch staggered carbon wheels, carbon ceramic braking system, 5-mode traction control system, GPS based system controlling suspension, differential and aero settings, light-weight racing seats, climate control, rearview camera and active ride height system.

Optional equipment includes some notable items such as one-piece racing bucket seats, full clear carbon bodyshell, active damper settings, personalized logo on rear hood, anodized black aluminum interior, custom luggage set and interior leather as well as active noise cancellation and a titanium exhaust outlet.

The Koenigsegg One:1 is the ultimate technological expression of a manufacturer that prides itself on producing world-beating sports cars. In this case, company owner Christian Von Koenigsegg likes to refer to it as the first Megacar, thanks to the one megawatt power output.

The lofty title does seem to suit it as there is not much out there that can challenge its performance credentials. A mere 7 examples have been built in total, 1 of which found its way to the States, guaranteeing exclusivity to the lucky owner.
