It's pretty impressive.
It appears that Ford is intent on breaking the internet this year. Not only has the company revealed the first-ever all-electric version of its legendary full-size truck, the new F-150 Lightning, but it also dropped the smaller Ford Maverick, a compact truck that's been stealing headlines for months now.
The Maverick EcoBoost and Hybrid entered production last week and both versions aim to prove that Americans don't need massive full-size to get the job done. The Hyundai Santa Cruz will be its prime rival. We already know that the Maverick is around $3,000 cheaper than the Hyundai, and now a newly leaked window sticker has revealed the official EcoBoost 2.0L AWD fuel consumption figures.
Back in August, a member of the MaverickTruckClub forum posted photos of the 2.0-liter EcoBoost model's window sticker, showing a fuel economy rating of 22/29 mpg city/highway. That figure was taken from a vehicle fitted with the 4K towing package that has a 3.81 ratio final drive instead of the standard 3.64 ratio.
The new images reveal that that has had no effect on the final figures. The official figure featured on this newly released window sticker image shows 22/29/25 mpg city/highway/combined. That's impressive when you consider that the significantly more expensive Hyundai Santa Cruz 2.5-liter turbo produces not much more power, but only returns 19/27/22 mph.
The window sticker belongs to a 2022 XLT AWD model fitted with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, eight-speed automatic transmission, FX4 Off-Road Package, and equipment group 300A. According to the EPA, this vehicle will cost its owner $500 more in fuel costs over five years than the average new vehicle and will rack up an annual fuel cost of $1,400. This Maverick scores an average of five out of ten for both fuel economy and greenhouse gasses, as well as for smog rating.
What might have come as a surprise for Ford is that the base hybrid variant is proving to be the more popular choice amongst buyers. There's a possibility Maverick hybrids will be more difficult to find on dealer lots unless one placed an order.
