Called the Recharge, the Volvo S60 Hybrid is the brand's premium mid-size sedan offering for the US market. Although it's not quite as thrilling as some of its rivals, the Recharge still has some spice to plate up. Equipped with a turbo- and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to two electric motors, total outputs of up to 415 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque are fed to all four wheels in the Polestar Engineered version. It might be a plug-in hybrid, but it's not short on performance, either, with enough in reserve to challenge sports sedans like the BMW M3. But Volvo isn't focused on the performance game like competitors, and instead, this is targeted as a more potent alternative to the likes of the BMW 3 Series Hybrid. Its strong blend of refinement, luxury, and speed make the S60 Recharge stand out as one of the best hybrid sedans on the market.
For 2022, the trims are reduced and features are shuffled around. The base Recharge R-Design Expression trim receives the R-Design bumpers, grille, and window surrounds but loses the front fog lights and electrically operated rear child locks. The rest of the Recharge lineup gains wireless device charging. All trims lose the compass that used to be built into the rear-view mirror. Volvo has now standardized on a leather-free material with which to trim the steering wheel and the leather-trimmed key fob is also no longer available. Bursting Blue is dropped from the paint palette and is replaced by a new Thunder Grey paint finish. Finally, if you tick the box for the Advance package, it now includes a better cabin air-filtration system.

After a review of the Volvo S60 Recharge Hybrid, we're left with the opinion that it's quickly making a name for itself as a refined, luxurious cruiser. And, with high safety ratings, it's a prime candidate as an ideal luxury family vehicle. It may not be the most frugal with just 22 miles electric range and average gas mileage returns (28/33/30 mpg and 69 MPGe), but in this guise, it manages to one-up the standard gasoline engines and offer a little bit of fun. 0 to 60 mph can be reached in as little as 4.1 seconds in the Polestar, and despite the added weight of the hybrid components, it's still highly composed through corners. Add to that an electric-only top speed of 78 mph, and it's highly versatile. Despite a very modest appearance, the interior is as opulent as can be, packed with luxuries and conveniences, high-quality materials, and the latest tech. Although it has smaller trunk dimensions than the segment average, this car is a great value-for-money buy.
The base price of the Volvo S60 hybrid is cheaper than last year thanks to the introduction of a new entry-spec trim. The R-Design Expression has a starting cost of $47,650, with the standard R-Design priced at $3,000 more. This $50,650 price tag also applies to the more elegant Inscription trim. For the ultimate in performance and the full spectrum of advanced features and upgrades, $64,800 will get you the Polestar Engineered. These prices exclude the $1,045 destination fee. In comparison with the competition, the Swedish marque's automobiles have always been significantly more expensive. Even so, Volvo proves to be as popular as ever in the USA, with many of its rivals unable to come close to how much value the brand packs into its products.
