Stunning Blue Ferrari F40 Sells For Record $1.4 Million

Video / 11 Comments

It's possibly the most famous F40 in the UK.

Ferrari is no stranger to breaking auction records. In 2018, a stunning Ferrari 250 GTO sold for a record-breaking $48 million. Last year, a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose breached the $3 million mark and became the most expensive vehicle to be sold via an online auction. Clearly, collectors are willing to pay big bucks for a rare Ferrari. Well, another record has just been shattered because a Ferrari F40 - a car that needs no introduction - just sold for a staggering £1 million or around $1.38 million at current rates. According to Cars UK, that makes it the most expensive car ever sold via online auction in the UK and Europe.

The precise amount of the sale was £1,000,500 for this 1989 F40 finished in a blue exterior with a black/red interior. That's more than two new SF90 Stradale models. This particular F40 is especially famous because it has been owned by Sam Moores since 2015; Moores goes by many titles including international commercial photographer, YouTuber, podcaster, and amateur racer. Because of his following, this F40 has been extensively photographed and even has its own, dedicated Instagram account. Initially registered close to Lake Geneva in Nyon, Switzerland, in July 1989, the F40 ended up in Japan in 2004 before being customized into a road-going F40 LM in 2010.

Later, the Ferrari now known as F40BLU was stripped down and rebuilt to factory specs, along with new blue paintwork. It rides on 17-inch Speedline light-alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero rubber. Paint protection film was applied in 2015 by Topaz Detailing and it appears to be in superb condition.

Inside, the red bucket seats are in equally great shape. However, don't look for door handles, a sound system, or even carpeting, as the cabin has been kept very basic. Air conditioning is equipped, though.

With just 16,146 miles on the clock since it was returned to factory specification, this F40 is in excellent mechanical condition and sounds unfiltered in a way that no modern car can match. Originally, the F40's 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 generated 471 horsepower and 1,311 units were produced between 1987 and 1992. F40BLU may not be the most original of them all but it's possibly the most famous F40 of all in the UK. It's now also one of the most highly valued after this record-breaking sale.
