TEASED: New Fisker Pear Will Be An Affordable EV With Plenty Of Style

Electric Vehicles / 4 Comments

Company founder Henrik Fisker shared the teaser on Instagram.

In February, Fisker announced that it would introduce a well-priced electric vehicle to accompany the more upmarket Ocean SUV. Priced from $29,900, the oddly-named Pear will take the fight to the Nissan Leaf and, like its Japanese rival, will have seating for up to five occupants and a compact body shell.

Now, thanks to a teaser shared by company founder Henrik Fisker, we've got our first good look at the Pear. The teaser shows the battery-powered newcomer in a rather attractive shade of red. The front facia shares many design traits with the larger Ocean - the model name takes pride of place beneath the hood badge.

The slim headlights look good, too. The Pear does boast a far more subtle bumper treatment; Fisker's smallest offering has a less aggressive faux grille treatment.

Judging by how closely it's sitting to the road, we're anticipating the Pear will have a more traditional hatchback shape, although we won't be surprised if it hits the scene as a crossover. The latest glimpse differs slightly from the teaser Fisker shared on Twitter earlier this month. We assume the latest sneak peek is closer to the final product.

In his Instagram teaser, Fisker said we can expect to see a Pear prototype sooner than expected. "We are working on ... redefining how to make an inexpensive car. Reducing parts, make them simpler. Adding technology [and] unique features to replace tradition! I expect we will show a prototype earlier than I originally stated." Since edited, the original caption said the Pear should be ready by 2024.

With the Ocean slated to enter production later this year, the Pear will follow shortly thereafter. Together with the Lordstown Endurance, both Fisker models will be manufactured at a former General Motors facility in Ohio. With up to 542 horsepower on tap, the Ocean will be positioned as an upmarket SUV and, as such, be priced accordingly.

Plusher models will cost around $69,000 but the range will kick off at an appealing $37,499. The Pear will be cheaper still, at $29,900. With incentives, there's a possibility that eco-minded buyers could get their hands on the smallest Fisker for just $22,400.

Even though that's pricier than the Leaf, Fisker's affordable EV will be more exciting to look at and offer superior tech. Fisker's range will grow even stronger in the coming years, with the arrival of a gorgeous sports car and a luxury sedan.
