The BMW X6 Might Get Hot M60i Variant

Spy Shots / 6 Comments

Your X6 M-lite is on the way.

Our first look at the facelifted BMW X6 arrived in February of last year, giving us insights into the design and technology of the cabin. It took another 12 months before we got fresh images of prototypes out on testing, but it seemed to have been worth the wait as we saw that the coupe-shaped SUV would be getting smaller kidney grilles and a more attractive overall design. It now appears that there are yet more reasons to get excited about the 2023 BMW X6, as fresh imagery has revealed a set of squared, quad tailpipes, which BMW says will signify its M Performance-enhanced, or M-lite, cars. In this case, it appears that would mean an X6 M60i.

Our sources tell us to expect the SUV to be powered by a 530-horsepower version of BMW M's S68 engine, which is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that has recently been enhanced with mild-hybrid assistance. This 48-volt setup should improve acceleration and fuel economy simultaneously, and we predict that an eight-speed automatic gearbox will deliver power to all four wheels. We can also see what appear to be tinted taillights (although these could change closer to production) and a pair of M-style mirrors, making it easier to identify this as an M-fettled model with more power. The rear bumper will be restyled too.

The headlights will be slimmer too, with refreshed graphics for a distinctive light signature. The front bumper will be massaged to match that of the rear.

As for the interior, the cabin will be updated with iDrive 8 and its dual-screen display. This will translate to a 12.3-inch driver cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment interface. New leather, trim, wheel, and color options are predicted too, but it will still be some time before we see the final product as a reveal is only expected to occur late this year for the 2023 model year.
