The V50 is the wagon version of the S40 sedan, which for some reason Volvo thought wouldn’t be at all confusing to have a different number assigned to it. People expect a lot from Volvo station wagons, as they have been such mainstays of suburban life for so long, and this is easily the most stylish that Volvo has ever produced. There is a distinctly European look to it, and it is actually faster than many of the competing European models. It is obviously incredibly safe, in the grand tradition of Volvos, but it is a welcome break from tradition in that it is quite a bit of fun to drive.
