If you thought BMW was going to stop with the outrageously-styles XM performance SUV, think again. It would appear BMW is working on a second halo SUV that will live alongside the XM, albeit with an entirely different focus. While the XM is a full M product designed with performance in mind, the X8 will take on a luxurious alter-ego in a bid to rival the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, Land Rover Range Rover SV, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
It's expected to share a platform with the X7, but forego the third row of seats in favor of two rows and extra opulence. That means fully-reclining rear seats, more tech, and plusher upholstery than ever before. However, you can expect BMW's familiar range of engines to be used, including 380-horsepower six-cylinders and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 generating closer to 600 hp. Rumors also suggest a detuned version of the XM's plug-in hybrid powertrain will be used, generating closer to 700 hp. The X8 is expected to be revealed late in 2022 and make landfall in 2023.
