The details look astounding.
Cadillac is ready to take a big swing at Tesla with the all-electric Lyriq, which undercuts the Model Y with a $62,990 starting price. That's not even factoring in the two years of complimentary charging or $1,500 credit towards a home charger installation. After the Lyric, the 2023 Cadillac Celestiq will arrive as an all-electric flagship sedan, boasting GM's FSD-rivaling semi-autonomous driving software called Ultra Cruise.
No official reveal date for the Celestiq has been announced, but Cadillac says it plans to share more "early looks" throughout the summer with "availability [to] be announced at a later date." The previous teaser showed a wheel and a bit of the low-slung body, but this latest early look goes a bit deeper into the Celestiq's details.
"The interior is open and spacious, and creates an experience unlike anything else with a focus on meticulous detailing overlayed on a clean cutting-edge design," boasts Cadillac. From what we can tell in the image, the Celestiq will feature a knurled rotating nob on the center console, like the Lyriq, with what appears to be some sort of pop-up touchscreen in front of it, with this layout very similar to that seen in Mercedes products of late. Intricate speaker grilles, lavish upholstery, and high-quality materials can be seen in other images.
"The Celestiq exterior and interior were designed together to reflect a holistic vision of what American luxury can be," said Tristan Murphy, Cadillac interior design manager. "With Celestiq, we've created an even higher level of craft, allowing us to add that beautiful sense of movement through the cabin." The cabin looks remarkably upscale with metal trim, sumptuous red leather, and etched veneers.
Cadillac also showed off another brief glimpse at the exterior, this time a view of the taillights. Like the Lyriq, we suspect the Celestiq will receive a futuristic lighting signature with entry and exit animations. We also see aluminum elements, one of which bears the script "Standard of the new world."
This is shaping up to be a stunning-looking sedan with a world-class interior that will bring American luxury to a new level. Until it arrives, presumably later this year, you have to make do with old-school luxury touches and big, bad V8 engines in cars like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and the recently unveiled Escalade-V. We can't wait to see the finished product, and even if it's not as fast, this is shaping up to be a vastly more special car than an aging Tesla Model S.
