The luxury division of Hyundai, Genesis offers a lineup of luxury alternatives to highly popular, affordable fare that has won the parent company such acclaim. The list of Genesis cars is currently limited to only four options, with another planned for its debut in the near future. Unfortunately, if you are shopping for a high-performance vehicle or a rugged pickup, you shall not find one here. But then again, you do not go to Hyundai for such things. Instead, these are highly reliable, safe, and comfortable automobiles that look and feel good when you drive them around town.
About Genesis Motor Vehicles
Originally envisioned in 2004, the brand only truly came into existence in 2015. As such, its history is very short, but it has certainly been prolific. In its review of Genesis car models, J.D. Power found the brand to be extremely dependable, awarding all iterations in the lineup with a top rating for reliability in 2020. Now that the bar has been set, we expect even greater accomplishments in the future as the company goes up against similar prestigious rivals like Infinity, Lexus, and even established European names like Mercedes-Benz or BMW.
Genesis Car Models
Currently, only two types of body styles are offered. But, since the manufacturer is still very young, this is likely to increase. The success it has already garnered should encourage it to branch out into other segments.
- Sedan - It is no surprise that the oldest configuration was the starting point for the new Genesis car models. These four-door automobiles are versatile and cheaper than their larger counterparts. But that does not mean they have to be small, as the G90 proves. The G70 and G80 are also included in this category.
- SUV - Perhaps the reason for the decline in popularity of the brand in the USA is that it only offers a single sport utility vehicle - the GV80. Due to their practicality and commanding view of the road, these high-riders are dominating the roads, as seen in the US sales. However, the GV70 debuts soon, filling in a gap in the range.
New Genesis Cars
The newest Genesis vehicles comprise a range of five derivatives, ranging in size and utility, as well as cost.
- G70 - The midsize offering should suit buyers on a budget who still want a taste of how the other half live. It is not as plushly appointed as its bigger brothers, nor does it supply as much space, especially for those in the rear. However, it is outfitted with loads of standard features and boasts a superb warranty. Cargo space is limited, sadly, and this little show pony is pretty thirsty, too.
- G80 - One step below the flagship, this three-box commuter has a remarkably stylish exterior. And the good looks extend to the interior, which is laid out in a unique but appealing manner. Two engines are available, with the stronger V6 developing 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. This power does not go to waste, as the handling is finely tuned to manage it while still delivering a poised ride.
- G90 - The executive sedan is the marque’s flagship, offering unparalleled style and sophistication. Since it is a large and portly automobile, it relies on its potent powertrain to get it moving. There is not much of a difference in o to 60 mph sprint times between the two, but the 5.0-liter V8 engine sounds sublime - the perfect soundtrack for such an elegant cruiser. The top trim is equipped with an extensive list of safety and comfort features.
- GV80 - The company’s first foray into the crossover segment should be a resounding success. The same elegant lines and large grille found on the stately sedans are present here, too, giving the model unmistakable curb appeal. But the cabin is where the real magic is. Just about every gadget imaginable is included, and the infotainment system is even more impressive than on the already established nameplates. Add to this large trunk with folding rear seats and this is a recipe for success.
- GV70 - Due for release in 2021, the full specs for the compact SUV have not yet been released, but if its big brother is any hint of what is to expect, then we are waiting with bated breath. It will mostly likely put the same to motors to work - a turbo four-pot or twin-turbo V6. Since it plans to compete with the likes of the BMW X3, it better bring its A-game in the tech department, too.

FAQs
What is the price of a new Genesis car?
Since this is a premium marque, you can expect to pay a bit more than you would for Hyundai. Still, the G70, with a starting MSRP of $36k, is not asking too much considering what you get in return. However, the price of the top model, the G90, makes a $72,950 dent in your wallet.
How reliable is a 2021 Genesis car?
J.D. Power, an independent organization based in America, releases the ranking of the best motorcars based on consumer feedback and expert reports. The Korean automaker nabbed the top spot for 2020, so there is little doubt that it could rank very highly in the upcoming year, assuming it does not outright win again.
Is there a new Genesis for 2021?
Both the GV70 and GV80 have been added to the lineup. The full details for the compact SUV are still a little hazy but each offering fills a gap in the current range so as to better appeal to American customers.
