Difference brands, prices, and hues with one thing in common... they rock.
What makes a car color cool? We'd argue it has to be bold, bucking the conventional black, white, or silver. Those colors are all painfully common, so they will not be included on this list. Our selections will be divided by automaker to highlight which companies are currently offering the best paint schemes in 2022. Since it would be tough to cover every interesting hue available, some of your favorites may be excluded from this list. Preference will be given to newer colors, so excellent colors that have been available for a while (like Mazda's Soul Red Metallic) won't appear on this list.
It's easy to forget about Alfa Romeo since the Italian brand hasn't released any new products since the Giulia and Stelvio. That will soon change, with the Alfa Romeo Tonale set to arrive later this year sporting some lovely, but still unconfirmed color options in the US. Even so, Alfa's existing products have some of the most interesting shades on this list. Some of our favorites include the new Ocra GT Tri-Coat (Yellow) and Verde (Green) Montreal Tri-Coat. Those new colors, in addition to oldies like Alfa Rosso and Misano Blue give Alfa Romeo one of the best color pallets available.
Walk into any BMW dealership, and you'll typically find a sea of black, silver, and white, otherwise known as the German Rainbow. But BMW's M Division often breaks this mold, offering historically great colors such as Laguna Seca Blue. Some of the company's current products, like the BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, offer eye-catching colors like Sao Paulo Yellow and Isle of Man Green. Further up the lineup, the M5 CS offers a more subtle (but still cool) Frozen Deep Green Metallic.
Some other great BMW colors offered in 2022 include Thundernight Metallic, Misano Blue Metallic, and Toronto Red Metallic. And if none of these colors suit your taste, there's always the BMW Individual program where you can order almost any hue imaginable.
Cadillac wouldn't be anywhere near this list if it was written a decade ago, but the American luxury automaker is having one last chuckle before it fully embraces electric vehicles. The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing come in some stellar colors, including Electric Blue, Blaze Orange, and Infared Tintcoat. Sadly, the limited-run Dark Emerald Frost has ended production, but it will likely command a hefty premium on the second-hand market.
Not only does Dodge have some of the most interesting colors, but it also has the most creative names. What other automaker has names as cool as Hellraisin, Go Mango, Indigo, Frostbite, TorRed, and Sinamon Stick? And those are just the colors with funny names! Dodge has other awesome hues on the Charger and Challenger with more conventional designations like F8 Green.
Ford deserves huge praise for its current color pallet because many of these hues are available across the lineup on multiple products, not just the expensive or sporty ones. Interesting options such as Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Velocity Blue Metallic, Hot Pepper Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, and Area 51 are available on the Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport, Maverick, and more. Then there are some specialty colors like Eruption Green Metallic Paint, Code Orange, and Grabber Blue.
Much like its corporate counterpart Dodge, Jeep offers some of the most creative colors available in 2022 with excellent names. Our personal favorite is Tuscadero Pink, named after Fonzie's girlfriend (Pinky Tuscadero) from the show Happy Days. Other excellent Jeep colors include High Velocity, Firecracker Red, Snazzberry Pearl, Gobi, and Sarge Green. Even the previously boring color pallet of the Grand Cherokee was recently brightened up with a new Hydro Blue hue.
Not only does Porsche offer some incredible factory paint options like Frozen Berry Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, Mamba Green Metallic, and Carmine Red, but it also offers the most extensive Paint-To-Sample program in the business. And you can now check out these colors on the configurator, with our favorites including Acid Green, Bahama Yellow, Mexico Blue, Ruby Star, and Ultraviolet.
Rivian is still a young automaker with only one product, but we have to give credit where its due for the company's expansive color pallet. The Rivian R1T electric pickup truck has some bold paint options, including Red Canyon, Forest Green, Compass Yellow, and Rivian Blue. These colors will also be available on the R1S SUV. Compare it to Tesla's limited pallet, and Rivian truly stands out.
Toyota is often pictured as a boring car company, but the Japanese automaker has been known to let its hair down with fun colors, especially on the TRD Pro truck lineup. The Tacoma and 4Runner TRD Pro models are currently available with what is possibly their most outrageous signature color ever, called Electric Lime Metallic. Further down the lineup, a former TRD Pro-exclusive color called Army Green is also available. Toyota has other fun colors too, including the Tundra TRD Pro's Solar Octane, Supra's Nitro Yellow, GR86's Neptune Blue, and Corolla's Blue Flame.
